Perpignan

Perpignan Villa Rental

If you are considering a holiday villa near Perpignan, the city of Perpignan is just under an hour from our Languedoc holiday villa in Durban Corbières and just north of the pretty seaside village of Collioure . With a population of just over 100,000 it’s the largest city in the Roussillon region and given the wide range of airlines flying to Perpignan airport is very often the arrival point for guests at Villa La Cascade. Given its size there are always a wide range of things to see and do every year in the last weekend of August in the Palace of the Kings of Majorca the free 3 day Guitares au Palais takes place. With a lively Catalan influence, the history of Perpignan is very much based on the history of the often stormy relationship between France and Spain – indeed Perpignan became part of France as part of the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659.

Famous for its rugby club – USA Perpignan and dominated by the peak of Canigou, Perpignan is an easy day trip from our Languedoc holiday villa and sites include The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist of Perpignan. Catalan artist Salvador Dali is closely associated with the city – declaring that the Iberian Peninsula rotated precisely at Perpignan station 132 million years ago! The weather is an important consideration for a Languedoc holiday and the Languedoc weather in the Perpignan region rarely disappoints – long summers, short winters and a very strong chance of a blue Mediterranean sky!
