Languedoc Villa Rental - Weather
Languedoc Weather
Languedoc boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually and the blue Mediterranean sky proves an attraction to those looking to rent a villa in the region.
Summers are hot (Nimes is the hottest place in France and recorded a temperature of 43C (110F) in 2001) and from May to the end of September the average is late twenties to early thirties. Thankfully the garden and terrace at Villa La Cascade provides ample shade from the southern French sun as well as a beautiful deck upon which to stretch out and enjoy the views.
Winter is brief, frost is a rare visitor and even at Christmas you can feel the warmth of the sun. Despite all the sunshine, cloudy days are not unheard of - but thankfully they are few and far between. In the mountains snow is a regular feature and great skiing can be found a few hours away in the Pyrenees.
Perhaps our favourite season is autumn. It’s still warm enough to sit out and visitors who rent this Languedoc villa can use the pool until the end of October. The colours in the vineyards are amazing as the vines turn to the most beautiful display of russets, reds, golds and browns as the harvest gets into full swing.
Away from the villa and the influence of the Mediterranean, a few hours’ drive north from Durban is the Montaigne Noir where the climate changes significantly. As you climb into the lovely hills you reach the watershed where rivers drain north and west to the Atlantic rather than south and east to the Mediterranean.
Spring is also beautiful and March and April bring an amazing mixture of sunshine and the odd shower. However because this is Languedoc, the sun is never far behind and is guaranteed to put in an appearance sooner rather than later!
